Four Ways To Make a Knife:
In the first issue of tips on buying the perfect kitchen knife. First, let’s talk about the four main types of kitchen knives.
1. Cast Steel Kitchen Knives.
The first method of making kitchen knives is the forged kitchen knife, which has a stamped steel blade. Next, a hardening process is performed to ensure the lowest quality, and finally, this plate is embedded in an injection molding grip. Which is usually made of some kind of plastic or colored fiber.
We work with this type of knife only with sharp or serrated knives. It is designed for precise results and is easy to clean in the dishwasher. It usually costs between 5 and 20 euros per unit.
2. Steel Knife with a Stamped Steel Blade.
Another way to make a knife is to use a stamped steel blade. Similar to the injection version but has a hammered handle where the blade goes all the way through the handle. Like this example from the Simon Gourmet Classic line of knives.
These knives are characterized by maximum performance and durability. This is because the products we use are 2mm thick, which ensures plenty of strength. Another advantage is that it is made of thermoplastic martensitic steel with a carbon content of more than 0.60%, which ensures good edge retention. The handles are very durable and dishwasher safe.
3. Forged Steel Knife.kitchen knife
The third method of manufacturing kitchen knives is forged steel, which is characterized by quality starting from high carbon steel bars, which are then heat treated at 800°C, this time by beating (crushing) the bar. I cut out the shape of the mold. . a knife. and remove it completely. Contains a metal sheath (connector between handle and blade).
These knives have a perfect balance between the blade and the handle. The weight is stressed at the beginning of the blade which meets the casing or rib in the blade extension. With superior blade strength and durability, die-cutting knives like our Simon PRO Micarta knives are available at no extra cost.
4. Forged Damascus Steel Knife.
Unlike the previous method, the fourth method of making kitchen knives is to forge Damascus steel. Blades of two or three different steel plates are welded together and heated to about 800°C and after annealing, they are hammered together and bent together using a hammer. Kind of like puff pastry means we only got a kitchen knife at the end. Up to 300 grades of steel, depending on masterwork or product machine.
This type of steel will give us the best resistance and best shear value. By combining the flexibility of the blade or handle and the hardness of the cut, as in the Tojiro PRO 63 Damascus range of knives,
In the next section, we will discuss the recommended sizes or shapes of kitchen knives needed in the kitchen.
