Apart from its vibrant nightlife, Mumbai is also famous for its adventurous trekking spots. Trekking is an adventure sport in which trekkers walk through the country on foot while enjoying the scenic beauty of nature.

Trekking is not only just about exploring and enjoying the scenery, but it is also a huge source of learning and inspiration. While trekking, you do not only walk for hours but also consciously or subconsciously observe the environment, people, and actions and learn from them.

There are many sites near Mumbai or in Mumbai that offer you the best trekking experience such as Matheran fort trek, Rajmachi Trek, Mahuli Fort, Korigad Fort, etc.

A perfect guide is a must for perfect trekking, plan your trekking tour accordingly so that you will not miss any opportunity. To ease up your work, here is a perfect guide for a perfect tour.

What is the perfect time for trekking?

The trekkers can trek in the western ghats of Maharashtra throughout the year. However, your trekking season will highly affect your trekking experience so based on the season you are trekking in, here are a few things that you should keep in mind.

  • Monsoon trekking  (Mid-June to August)

Monsoon is considered the most popular season for trekking in Maharashtra. The reason behind this popularity is that you get to experience the lush green mountains all imbued with vegetation and the wispy clouds covering the mountains that seem like a god’s heaven. Most of the trekkers prefer the monsoon season to experience a pious environment, free from city pollution.

  • Autumn Trekking (September – October)

During the Autumn season, you will get to experience a very humid climate owing to intermittent rainfalls and clouds covering the ground. The countryside gets changed to muddy trails and a large bulge of streams fizzle down to a trickle. The muddy and damp land becomes a bit slippery, making it necessary to buy a good pair of trekking shoes for safety.

  • Winter Trekking (November To February)

The winter season will bring dry trails, golden grass, and non-luminous vegetation for you. The seasonal ponds get dried by the time winter arrives, making it necessary for trekkers to carry water with them.

The good part about winter trekking is that you will experience a sky full of stars making an indelible remark which is hard to find in metropolitan cities. It is a great opportunity for stargazers to watch the entire Milky Way and to spend a night under the sky full of stars.

  • Summer Trekking (March To June)

Most of the trekkers don’t prefer this season because of the high temperature, and no potable water sources. Even after all these difficulties, you can trek at night. Although, hiring a guide would be more appropriate. If you are a newbie, don’t even think about trekking at night otherwise you may get lost at night as the trails are not well-marked.

What are some best treks in Mumbai?

  • Korigad Fort

This is the best trekking destination for beginners. A 20-minute walk is enough to reach the top of the fort. Once you reach the top, you will be awe-inspired at the fact that the structure is beautifully well-preserved like temples, ramparts, and some remains of other spaces.

  • Tandulwadi Fort

Tandulwadi is a dream destination for monsoon trekking in Mumbai as this trekking spot becomes more adventurous during the monsoon season. If you are a newbie and thinking of visiting this trekking spot then drop this idea immediately. This place will not at all entertain first-time trekkers.

  • Mahuli Fort

Mahuli fort is located near the district of Thane. It is  2815 ft tall. This fort is the tallest in the entire district, you will get the bird’s eye view of beautiful lush vegetation and nature’s beauty.

  • Matheran fort trek

Matheran fort is the most favored destination for Mumbaikars. This fort is the nearest to Mumbai, located at the Sahyadri range. This is an idyllic destination for trekking lovers. You will get mesmerized by the lush green vegetation and scenic beauty of nature.  The reason behind this beauty is the strict actions taken by the state government such as not allowing cars inside city boundaries.  This place is full of piousness, so get some time off from city pollution.

  • Rajmachi trek

Rajmachi trek is popular for its superabundant vegetation, countryside beauty, and water spring. This trek can be visited by both beginner and experienced trekkers. The best time to visit this place is either during March or September. Spend your weekend at this picturesque location and lose all your blues away.
