Teaching in Sharjah is an amazing experience. One of the biggest reasons is that you are not held to the same standards as you would be in America. For instance, teachers in America have 45 minutes to teach a lesson, while teachers in Sharjah only have 30 minutes. I know what you are thinking, that’s 15 minutes less than we have. That may seem like a negative, but it truly is a positive.
Since we are teaching less every day, our students get more practice time on their own. They get to practice with their peers, and that gives them an opportunity to practice what they learned with someone else. It also allows for more one-on-one time between the teacher and the student so they can get the attention they need to help them understand something they did not understand before.
Another reason why teaching in Sharjah is such an amazing experience is because of the resources available to teachers. Teachers at my school have access to interactive whiteboards and smart TV screens with built-in computers. We have access to projectors and speakers that make our lessons come alive through videos and pictures that go along with everything in international school teachers.
