Light blue braces may be all the rage these days, but that doesn’t mean they’re ready for every mouth yet. In fact, a lot of people who want to get braces in the first place might not actually be good candidates for light blue braces specifically because their teeth don’t respond well to this shade of color. What color should you choose then? We break down your options below, but first, take a look at the top 5 reasons why light blue isn’t right for you (and what to do about it).
Are you ready for light blue braces?
Light blue braces are a fashion trend; you may or may not want to include them in your orthodontic treatment. A lot of people want to know whether these light-colored bands look good on teeth, and if you have enough tooth color to pull it off. The answer is that it depends on your situation. To help you decide whether or not they’re right for you, read our guide below!
What style of braces do I need?
If you’re considering getting braces, you should also make sure to find out what style of braces would be best for your mouth. This might seem a little weird at first, but hear us out. Different styles of braces work differently and are suited to different types of mouths, teeth and jaws. That means that although it may be tempting to get braces just because they’re cool (and trust us—they really are), you should take into account what sort of jaw shape you have when making your decision. Talk with your orthodontist about exactly which kind is right for you!
How do I get the best results from my mouthpiece?
There are plenty of reasons why people wear mouthpieces, but most do so because they’re dealing with dental issues. If you’re going to be wearing a mouthpiece, it’s important to know how to keep it clean and what materials work best. For example, many popular types of mouthguards are made from thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). The material works well, but you can make your own TPU mouthguard at home by combining baking soda and water. To create a gel-like compound that can be molded into a shape similar to your teeth and gums, mix equal parts baking soda and water.
Can I be confident with my smile with light blue braces on my teeth?
The first question we will be addressing is whether or not you should consider having light blue braces put on your teeth. For those who are wondering, yes, it is possible to have light blue braces placed on your teeth. When you visit with your orthodontist and bring up that you’d like light blue braces, they will typically tell you that they won’t be able to give them to you because they’re a specialty color. However, if you know what questions to ask and how to talk with your orthodontist about getting your dream color, then it can definitely happen!
When should I remove my mouthpiece if I am wearing light blue brackets?
Although you may want to, don’t take your mouthpiece out too early! Our orthodontist recommends that you wait until after your appliance appointment before taking it out; doing so will help ensure an accurate impression of your teeth and jaw. This way, if there is any discrepancy between your newly adjusted appliances and impressions, we can make adjustments accordingly at our next appointment. Plus, removing a bonded appliance can be difficult if you wait too long—not to mention how much discomfort you may experience while wearing it (and what kind of damage it could do to soft tissue!). It’s important to follow through with all prescribed care after your braces have been placed; although some temporary discomfort is normal, extreme pain or inability to eat are not. Contact us immediately if these things happen!
