As a designer, you will sometimes need feedback for designing your logo.
As a customer, you can also gather feedback and plans designed for you to make the best decision.
Designers will bring in customer service, or share ideas individually with other manufacturers, or seek honest feedback from the design community that will help improve the craft to create them.
I have been running the Logo Geek Facebook community for about 3 years and I have seen designers showcasing their work and … designers showcasing their work.
On the contrary, I have also worked with clients sharing logos I invented with friends and family, I have seen what can happen if not done correctly … As a customer, you can opt out of complexity, as developers, can become an endless nightmare of change … and everything around it is frustrating.
I’m happy I can help, so I hope this blog and podcast support (link above) will help designers and business owners who have designed their brand.
Avoid subjective feedback
In any case, the main thing we want to avoid is personal feedback. I think it starts with how you provide the customer with the configuration, or how to ask friends or family for feedback on the configuration.
The first thing I want to emphasize is that their ideas do not matter.
What other people think about designing your logo is not important.
As with any garden design, never ask anyone what they think about design.
This may sound like a powerful page, so I will explain it so that you can understand.
Why don’t you ask people what they think about your logo?
As with any field of design, especially logo design, we do not create a craft.
Designed to capture the brand’s representation of a business … an event to compete with a particular company, product or service … an event designed to appeal to a specific audience.
On top of that, there is also the technical side of logo design in particular. For example, a logo should be multifunctional to work well as a small social media logo, on websites, homes, clothing, cars … products … The list goes on and on. This means that the logo should be simple and straightforward.
So what I’m saying is … the logo, and everything else “made”, is created to perform a function.
If you are good at what you are doing, have carefully considered every aspect of the design.
Each row has a cause. Any color … its type, its definition, or its absence.
If you ask someone what they think … they will tell you what they think, and in many cases, since everyone has their own opinion, the feedback and feedback you receive does not give unless they have knowledge of your goals.
The response you get when you ask someone for his or her own opinion can be very personal. It is themselves because that is what they think! As I expect it to be clear, they themselves do not think it is necessary.
Design your plan to avoid subjective feedback
Helping to understand why we should not ask people, even if it is for the van truck, what they think is a good example of how I use my imagination to explain things to ordinary people.
Suppose I place a stapler on the table in front of you. What do you think of the stapler?
You carry a stapler … tell me what you think?
I know you have something to say.
So by asking “what do you think”, you arrive at your personal opinion. Ask people what they think will give you endless ideas.
This unfortunately happens in the design world. You asked your customers, your friends, your family what they thought of the hours you spent designing … and … you got a list of what they liked and did not like.
Unfortunately, many manufacturers listen and update. Dinner mode?
We want to avoid that, so for comparison, I will show you the stapler differently, and for this exercise, I will let you tell me to design this for you.
I then raised the stapler in front of you … and started a small demonstration …
“Based on our initial discussion, you will be looking for a device that can connect multiple pieces together permanently. You need to be cheap to design it.
What I am going to introduce to you today is its solution. I created a device that fits in hand. I added this water-carrying system so that the staples can be easily inserted in two steps – see how easy they are to enter. We use black rubber, cheap and sexy, perfect for the audience. I also carefully designed the design so that it could create multiple elements without any problems.
As you can see, this effectively meets the goals set for the beginning of the process. Can I get you to sign up for further production? “
In that case, you have no choice but to accept because I have achieved my goal. That’s what business owners’ intentions are.
I bet even you – a non-entrepreneur … I bet you believe me when you listen to my words.
I demonstrate this work by returning to work objectives … challenges and how I can best address them.
So, when you offer this method, you get credit … or … because we are focused on getting there, you get positive feedback.
Get the feedback from the design community
If you are asking for feedback from the public, like the logo geek community … With 8000 logo designers hanging out online, your approach will look like the one described, but I think it is a bit confusing and worth discussing.
Also, avoid asking people what they think. Just remove the sentence from your talk because it will give you problems that you cannot solve. I repeat because it is important.
Just because you talk to the designer community does not change that. Everyone … no matter who they are, there will be personal opinions, and many of those ideas have nothing to do with you.
You need to make sure you ask specific questions and provide background information.
You need to make sure that everyone knows the problem you are trying to solve, which will support a clear response, objective and help.
Sadly, that was the nature of the great crowd. But ignore his own response. I’m hard to know, but … you have to push them because it doesn’t help … as I have said many times, personal feedback is not necessary.
