Among its many launches at the 2016 Geneva International Haute Horlogerie Show, the Swiss brand also unveiled a limited edition sports watch – the new Capeland Shelby Cobra 1963. Is the launch of the new sports watch a sign of things to come from the brand?
Fake watches: Baume & Mercier was a busy brand at the SIHH in Geneva last week. Beyond the expected revival of its established Classima collection, the new versions were also unveiled to other collections. Among them were the new Hampton pieces, as well as Linea and Promesse models for women.

In addition to these changes, Baume & Mercier also announced the planned launch of another limited edition series, scheduled for market launch in April 2016. It includes two new limited edition 1963 Capeland Shelby Cobra models, produced as a tribute to the legendary car. Cobra 289 Roadster and legacy to motor racing championships.
To commemorate the launch, the brand made a bit of noise in the SIHH showroom, surprising guests with an evening showcasing the famous 1960 race car and the presence of its legendary driver, Allen Grant.

Baume & Mercier is also using the same strategy, which is a bit of a surprise for a brand that is generally known for its classic watches. The difference is that the Swiss brand actually has an official association with The Carrol Shelby Company, the team responsible for the iconic Cobra car race. Adding extra legitimacy to its new sports watches, the Shelby partnership is smart,
and could be a sign of more sports watches to come from the brand.
But for now, let’s go back to the clock. As a result of their partnership, Baume & Mercier fake had previously released the Capeland Shelby Cobra watch, based on a vintage 1948 single-pusher chronograph housed in the Baume & Mercier museum. Expanding on that collection, the new Limited Edition 1963 Capeland Shelby Cobra also reflects
the flared styling of the Cobra’s own streamlined body lines with its generous 44mm case size. The dials are inspired by the famous Cobra racing livery –
in this case black and yellow based on the 1963 model.
At the center of the tribute is the iconic cobra logo,
which was forged into the seconds hand to communicate a sense of constant movement. The hour and minute hands have also been created in the form of the graceful Cobra balance wheel.
Limited to just 1,963 pieces, the new watches will be available
from around €4,100 to around €4,500 depending on the model. At that very reasonable price point,
the watch is sure to give other sports watches that also channel the heritage of the Shelby Cobra a run for their money.
