There are many ways one can get injured playing golf. It’s just like any other activity where you move around a great deal. You can pull a muscle on your backswing for example. You can twist your ankle while looking for your ball in some bushes. Heck, you may even get knocked in the head with someone else’s golf ball.
In general, golf is one of the safest sports there are to play. It’s generally a causally relaxed atmosphere that doesn’t require running or any physical contact with another person. For more serious injuries, there may be a longer and more involved series of steps you need to take to return to normal. The NIH recently released stats and figures related to injury on the golf course. It found that about a quarter of all regular golf players will receive an injury in the calendar year that will require them to at least pause their game until they get well. Mostly, these injuries were found to be minor and golfers were able to get back out onto the course in weeks or even days later.
Tips for Safe Golfing
1. Make sure you have proper gear.
2. Make sure you stretch and warm up.
3. Make sure to drink plenty of water.
4. Make sure you have taken all your meds for the day.
5. If golfing alone, make sure to let someone know where you will be and when you expect to be back.
