Steven Fisk is a rookie on the PGA Tour and has experienced the kind of highs and lows (mostly lows) many rookies endure. Coming into the Sanderson Farms Championship, Fisk didn’t have a finish better that T-28 since May, but rebounded with one heckuva “high” in winning at the Country Club of Jackson over Garrick Higgo with a stirring final-round 64.

Noting after a Saturday 65 that “It's been a bit of a long year on the greens specifically, but I'm starting to see a couple better things,” Fisk kept the good times rolling on Sunday, dropping a 31-footer for birdie on the par-4 second hole and a 41-footer on the 16th to ignite a finishing kick of three straight birdies that propelled him to the win.

Fisk uses an Odyssey White Hot OG Rossie mallet putter, a flat stick that incorporates the company’s original White Hot insert formulation from the early 2000s. For the week Fisk ranked 15th in strokes gained/putting, picking up nearly four shots on the field and was third in putts per green in regulation.

Similar in profile to the ST-X, the weighting here is more neutral to emphasize forgiveness across the face. A 14-gram weight deep in the center creates significant stability compared to the ST-G. Additional speed comes from the channel cut into the front part of the sole, which allows the face to flex more at impact, especially low on the face. A steel weight in the polymer filling lowers the center of gravity to reduce spin. The deep center of gravity yields a higher launch. The high-strength, titanium-alloy face creates more potential ball speed across a wider area. Lightweight carbon composite covers the crown and is balanced across a piece on the sole to keep the center of gravity neutral. MOI Rating: HIGH 9.5, 10.5 degrees (with an eight-way adjustable hosel)

In all, Fisk made nine birdies against a lone bogey in his final round, using a very split set of Mizuno irons that utilizes five different models of Mizuno clubs in the 3-iron through pitching wedge. Off the tee, Fisk ranked fourth in strokes gained, besting the field average by 3.598 strokes with his 9.5-degree Mizuno ST-Z 230 driver with a Mitsubishi Kuro Kage White XD 70 TX shaft. Holding a one-shot lead on 18, Fisk launched a 330-yard bomb that found the fairway and followed it by zipping his approach in to four feet, setting up one final birdie to secure the win.

That’s called ending on a high note.
